The starting point

Since 1909 the Berlin company Collonil has offered high-quality shoe care products; today 70 % of the products are exported to 93 countries. The premium Gold series called for packaging to match the product inside.

The solution

Collonil is accompanying the Semadeni Industry Group in introducing a new technology: the one-stage process for producing PET containers. A corresponding machine was acquired and commissioned at the plant of Logo Plastic GmbH in Königstein/Saxony, and it now produces the PET bottles for the Collonil Gold series.

The process is more energy-efficient and allows far greater flexibility in shaping and in the design of the neck. More energy-efficient because, unlike the classic two-stage process, the preforms do not have to be reheated from cold but are blown while still thermoelastically warm, directly after injection moulding.

The outcome

Added to that are better surface quality and a higher-grade appearance – a match for premium contents such as Collonil's. The one-stage machine is one of 10 blow moulding machines at the Königstein plant; the plant is ISO 9001 and ISO 22000 certified and holds UN approval for packaging used to transport dangerous goods.

What distinguishes the one-stage from the two-stage process for PET bottles?

In the one-stage process the preforms are not reheated from cold but blown while still thermoelastically warm, directly after injection moulding. That is more energy-efficient, more flexible in shaping and neck design, and produces a better surface quality.
