On the Green Meadow

The starting point

The lawn in front of the detached house stretched south towards the agricultural zone and ended before the pasture in a bank planted with ground cover. A cypress hedge bordered the plot to the east, a fence to the west.

For the redesign, the landscaping company had a free hand. The existing cypress hedge and the fragrant osmanthus had to be protected; for the surroundings and the choice of materials, regional solutions in keeping with the landscape took priority.

The solution

As a specialist in koi pond construction, Marti Garten AG was able to adapt the technology to swimming ponds and rely on the know-how of pond manufacturer Semadeni AG. Together with the client, a koi pond was viewed first, then various filter models, timber species for the surround and sample stones for the bank were presented.

The filter system with pump shaft was specified to the latest state of the art and matched precisely to the project together with the supplier. The pond basin was made to measure by Semadeni and delivered; the swimming pond is equipped with step access, underwater lighting and a skimmer that keeps the water surface clean.

Access across the farmland proved a particular challenge – as did the permit for crossing it and the later reinstatement of the site track. By working with the weather and using suitable machinery, damage was kept to a minimum.

The outcome

Today a Jurassic limestone wall rises out of the green meadow and marks the southern boundary of the plot. The swimming pond was skilfully integrated into it and framed on three sides with thermo-ash decking; fence and cypress hedge remained untouched.
